Hi everyone,

I am a student at a university in CANADA, so I claimed my student developer pack so that I can use Copilot Pro for free, but I am unable to access Copilot Pro in my Visual Studio. WHY?

Getting the student pack actually doesn't turn on copilot automatically—you have to manually claim the offer yourself. i ran into the exact same issue.

1. Go to the github education benefits page, scroll down to "all offers", find copilot, and press "claim offer".

2. if you started a 30-day copilot trial before getting the student pack, it'll block the free student license. just go to your github settings > billing and plans, cancel the active trial, and then go back to the benefits page to claim the student one.

3. visual studio loves to log you in with your microsoft or uni email by default. you gotta make sure you're signed in with the exact github account that has the student pack. head to file > account settings in vs and make sure your github account is the active one.

4. if you just got approved, it can take like 24–72 hours for github's systems to actually sync up. if you did all the above, just sign out of vs, give it a day, and sign back in.

Hope this helps! let me know if it works for you ;)
