GitHub provides excellent webhook support for repository events, but there is currently no webhook fired when someone downloads a release asset.
Could GitHub consider introducing a
release_asset.downloadedwebhook containing:This would allow developers to track software downloads, send notifications and maintain download statistics without repeatedly polling the REST API.
It would also avoid the uncertainty caused by delays in updating
download_count.This would be particularly useful for developers distributing applications through GitHub Releases.
