The command palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K search and jump-to) animates on almost every keystroke, and it is distracting.

What happens

The dialog is centred vertically and animates its height. As you type, the number of results changes on each keystroke, so the palette grows, shrinks and moves up and down the page. When you clear the input, it jumps back to the full suggestions list. The input you are typing into moves too, so you lose your place.

Why it matters

Motion should match how often people see it. The palette is opened from the keyboard, often dozens or hundreds of times a day, and is used for speed. At that frequency, motion costs time and attention and adds nothing.

• Keyboard-initiated actions used 100+ times a day: no animation.
• Actions used tens of times a day: reduced motion.
• Occasional actions: standard motion.
• Rare or first-time actions: some delight is fine.
