GitHub Team upgrade blocked by VAT/GST ID for an individual in Ukraine #210648

Hello Yurii. This is a common hurdle with GitHub Team accounts. Because the Team tier is classified strictly as a business product the system automatically triggers strict B2B validation rules based on your country selection. There is no frontend switch to change an organization to consumer or individual billing but you can usually bypass or resolve this block with two different approaches. First you can try entering N/A or a string of zeros like 000000000 in the VAT ID field. For several regions where VAT is forced by the user interface but the buyer is a private individual entering a placeholder bypasses the frontend validation check and lets the card transaction save successfully. GitHub will then automatically apply the appropriate local consumer tax rates if the placeholder goes through. Second if the form aggressively rejects text placeholders with an invalid format error you will need to contact support. You can reach out directly through the official GitHub Billing Support Portal to explain that you are an individual upgrading a personal organization and do not possess a commercial tax registration number. The support team can manually override the backend requirement to process the payment configuration on their end. Kindly regards, |

GitHub Team upgrade blocked by mandatory VAT ID for an individual in Ukraine
I'm trying to upgrade my GitHub Free organization to GitHub Team with one monthly seat, paid personally.
I'm an individual based in Ukraine and I'm not VAT-registered. However, the organization's billing form requires a Business/Institution name and rejects an empty VAT/GST ID with the error "VAT code can't be blank".
This also prevents me from configuring a payment method for additional GitHub Actions usage after exhausting the included minutes.
Is there an official way to enable individual billing for an organization without a VAT registration number? Could this be caused by an incorrect business-ownership setting, and how can it be corrected?
Thank you.
