Yes, this is expected after leaving, and the email is not the blocker. Email. The docs cover your exact case: "add the exact historical commit email address back to your account. You do not need access to that mailbox." No verification is required for attribution, and the graph rebuilds within 24 hours. You have done this part. Repository access. A commit only counts if, besides the email match, it sits in a standalone repo (not a fork) on the default branch or
When your membership ended and you were not left on the repos as a collaborator, none of those hold any more, so the commits stop qualifying no matter which email they carry. The "private contributions" toggle only changes who can see the daily counts; it does not make repos you cannot access count. What works
If commits in a repo you can still reach have not come back after 24 hours, check the author email with the Docs: Troubleshooting missing contributions, Profile contributions reference. |

Hi GitHub Community,
I'm trying to restore historical contributions to my personal GitHub profile after leaving a previous employer.
I added the email address used in my historical Git commits to my current personal GitHub account and enabled private contribution visibility.
I verified locally that my historical commits use that exact email address as both the author and committer email. However, several days have passed, and my contribution graph still does not show those contributions.
I no longer have access to my former employer's email mailbox or organization membership.
According to GitHub's documentation, associating the historical commit email with my account should restore attribution for qualifying commits after the contribution graph refreshes.
Could someone clarify whether this behavior is expected when the former organization membership has ended, or whether there is another supported way to restore the contribution graph?
Thank you!
