Welcome, Sebastian. Nobody can say what the next 10 to 15 years look like, so be wary of anyone who sounds sure. Reading other people’s code, debugging, and explaining a change clearly in writing have been useful for a long time, and I’d bet on them staying useful. With AI tools, the skill I’d practice is reviewing what they produce, because someone still has to decide whether it’s right. For contributing, pick a project you already use and filter its issues by “good first issue”. A small docs fix or a typo counts, and your first merged PR matters more than how big it is. |

Where are you in your GitHub journey?
Student / Leveling up
And where are you going next on GitHub?
My next step is to start contributing to open source projects that have a positive impact on society. I'm also looking forward to connecting with developers from all over the world, learning from them and building long-term collaborations.
What technical skills or projects are you working on?
I'm a student leveling up my software development skills. I already have a few repositories on my profile and I'm continuing to build and improve projects while learning new tools and best practices.
Got a question for us? (optional)
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the future of our field: which technologies do you think will shape the next 10-15 years? And how do you imagine the role of a software engineer will change compared to today, especially with AI becoming more present in our daily work? What skills would you recommend investing in now to stay relevant?
