Roating an Icon 45° when it's clicked.

Hello - I'm looking for a support on a very simple solution to rotate an icon 45° when I click on it. It's a "+" sign that I'm using to open up a menu and I just want it to rate to an "x" sign when it's clicked.

Describe the solution you'd like.

There's a lot of options under Transform, but none of them simply rotate an icon.

Describe alternatives you've considered.

I've tried various CSS and JS scripts but they seem to be rotating the entire container versus just the icon which takes the icon out of view. Would appreciate any inputs to achieve this simple item.
