Describe the Problem

The current Off-Canvas implementation has three major limitations:

1. The toggle button only opens the panel—it doesn’t stay attached to the panel edge and cannot be used to close it.
2. Off-Canvas templates are not truly global. Updating a template often requires deleting and reinserting it on every page.
3. The panel always overlays the content instead of offering a push mode where the main content shifts aside, making it impossible to navigate while watching videos or reading content.

Propose a Solution

Feature Request: Improve Off-Canvas for Better Reusability and User Experience

I’ve been using the Off-Canvas widget extensively for building online courses, and I have a few suggestions that would significantly improve both usability and scalability.

1. Sticky Toggle Anchor

The Off-Canvas should support a sticky anchor button attached to the edge of the panel.

Desired behavior:

• When the panel is closed, only the anchor is visible.
• Clicking the anchor opens the Off-Canvas.
• Once opened, the anchor remains attached to the edge of the panel.
• The same anchor should close the panel again (true toggle behavior).
• Ideally, allow different icons for the open and closed states (e.g. ☰ when closed and ✕ when open).

This creates a much more intuitive interaction and eliminates the need to click outside the panel or use a separate close button.

2. Truly Global Off-Canvas Components

Off-Canvas should be able to be saved as a global reusable component.

Today, when using templates, updating the Off-Canvas often requires deleting and reinserting it on child pages.

Instead, it should work like a true global component:

• Create once.
• Insert everywhere.
• Edit once.
• Updates automatically propagate to every instance.

This would be especially valuable for course navigation, documentation, knowledge bases, and membership sites.

3. Push Mode (Instead of Overlay)

Currently the Off-Canvas overlays the page content.

It would be great to have an optional Push Mode, where opening the panel shifts the main content to the side instead of covering it.

Benefits:

• Users can continue watching videos while navigating.
• Better for LMS platforms and documentation sites.
• More desktop-friendly.
• Provides a smoother learning experience.

These improvements would make the Off-Canvas widget a much stronger navigation tool for:

• Online courses
• Membership sites
• Documentation
• Knowledge bases
• Large content libraries

With these enhancements, Elementor could offer an Off-Canvas experience comparable to dedicated LMS platforms while remaining fully visual and easy to maintain.
