Project Status

Hi everyone,

I would like to share an update regarding the future of the fedi-libs organization and its projects (apkit, apmodel, apsig).

TL;DR

• Active development of apkit and apmodel will be discontinued.
• apsig (HTTP Signatures) is completed and will remain available, but will only receive minimal maintenance (critical bug fixes).
• My personal interest and time have shifted toward Machine Learning (such as BERT).

Background

Back when I was actively developing fedi-libs, I had plenty of time and was full of enthusiasm. However, I’ve since lost much of my enthusiasm for ActivityPub as a whole, and I no longer have enough time to devote to maintaining fedi-libs.

Furthermore, my current interests have shifted away from Python toward developing practical applications using TypeScript and products utilizing BERT. As a result, I haven’t been able to keep up with the latest developments in the Fediverse. Considering that many issues stemming from the design of apkit and apmodel have remained unresolved and have been left unaddressed for a long time, I’ve decided it’s time to officially end development on these projects. (Another reason is that the issue preventing me from using TypeScript—which was the original motivation for starting fedi-libs—has now been resolved.)

What happens next?

1. apkit & apmodel: These repositories will be archived. They will remain read-only for anyone who wishes to fork or learn from the code.
2. apsig: Since this library is fully completed and functional, I will keep it as-is. I will only perform minimal maintenance, such as fixing critical bugs, if time permits.

Although it was a short period of time, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to fedi-libs.
