Summary
Allow Pangolin to visually mark and lock resources that are created via Docker labels, preventing configuration changes through the UI.
Motivation
In homelab environments, configurations are often managed as code within Git repositories to maintain version control and consistency. Sensitive information is replaced by environment variables outside Git. Pangolin’s ability to create resources from Docker labels fits perfectly into this model. However, once these resources appear in the Pangolin UI, it’s currently unclear that their configuration is managed externally, which may lead to unintentional manual edits that break the configuration-as-code workflow.
Proposed Solution
When a resource originates from Docker labels, Pangolin should:
• Clearly indicate in the UI that the resource is “managed by Docker labels.”
• Disable manual editing of its configuration fields to prevent inconsistencies.
• Optionally allow temporary disabling/enabling of the resource through the UI (for emergency cases only).
