Failover between multiple Sites

Would love to be able to run Newt on a couple servers at my home and have each resource work independently of having to choose a site. Not sure how this could be implemented the best, but having redundancy would be huge in case one instance of Newt goes down.

I was going to request this as well.
No idea about the complexity, but having failover would be amazing.
Pangolin already knows if an instance of Newt is online or not, so, in theory it should work.

We could have, for example:
resource.mydomain.com on Site 1 localhost:80
fallback: Site 2 localhost:80

So, in case newt on site 1 was offline, pangolin would automatically load the resource from site 2.

I think we will look into this! We've also talked about implementing load balancing between sites which would be an extension of the current target load balancing.

I think this is now possible in 1.9.0!

I think maybe it's this "Move site from resource to target so you can have multiple targets for a resource on different sites. This will allow you to create more highly available deployments!" So you setup each newt as a different "site" then the resource can target multiple sites. I wonder if thats the change @oschwartz10612 means?

Yes @rossdargan exactly thats right! That should help provide more HA if you have replicas of a resource.

You can host the control plane for multiple exit nodes in the enterprise version or by using the managed self hosted version with the cloud. We think this is a good way to help us monetize to continue to fund the project while keeping things still accessible in self-hosted.

Yeah, overall pretty disappointed that this essential feature has been locked behind cloud/managed and is unable to be used on self-hosted.
