Jellyfin Mobile App cannot find server

I have setup remote access for Jellyfin with Pangolin. Via browser I can easily access my Jellyfin instance. Via the official mobile app on Android. The app reports that the server cannot be found. Does anybody have an idea how to get Pangolin and Jellyfin working properly?

In the settings of jellyfin I have entered the IP of my pangolin server and the domain. Remote access is activated. Jellyfin is running on a LXC on proxmox. Locally everything works fine. That's why I believe it has something to do with Pangolin.

I think this can be solved by bypass rules. https://docs.fossorial.io/Pangolin/bypass-rules

Effectively this disables auth for specific paths to allow the clients to work. Otherwise, Pangolin's auth bocks the connection.

I have disabled auth and I cannot get It working. It seems to be a common issue with Jellyfin.. My thought was that maybe someone is using a similar setup with Jellyfin and might help me out.

Ah okay, some apps can be tricky. If you haven't already, you can come search our Discord. Lots of Jellyfin users in there and you may be able to find a working config.

You can also use the 'Alternative Share Link' when you create a Share. That seems to make the Jellyfin app happy.

Well, I thought it was working at one point using the share link that looks like: https://jellyfin.domain.com/?p_token=unmidrty.wiyx7qdt6ekvzvxyxnmujjjssct4. Apparently I was either mistaken or that stopped working at some point. Sorry for the noise.

No 😕 . Nor is the Jellyfin Android client listed in the table of bypass rules.

I'd reccommend disabling Pangolin's double layer of auth for the Jellyfin resource and using Jellyfin's auth. This is essentially what the bypass rules do anyway.

that is true. The problem is that the issue jellyfin/jellyfin#5415 (closed and split into multiple smaller issues) is one of the many good reasons for wanting to use forward auth with Jellyfin. Unfortunately, forward auth support for the apps needs to be implemented by Jellyfin, so not much that you could do from your side.

What would help the case from your side would be implementing https://github.com/orgs/fosrl/discussions/412 though (adding DynDNS whitelisting in addition to IP, IP range or path whitelisting). This can also be done with https://github.com/taskmedia/ddns-allowlist, but management of the page in Pangolin itself would be more convenient of course, as currently I'd need to set up Jellyfin in Traefik directly and skip Pangolin entirely. Besides VPNs, this probably is the only comfortable solution, although it also only works with people that have a public IP.
