KOReader progress synced to wrong book

What went wrong?

I'm not shure if this is an issue with Grimmory or KOReader or both.

I have the same book twice, one version in English and one in German. They are named the same in Grimmory, only the language is set differently.
Grimmory saved the epubs of the two books as "Author - Book (2015)" for the English and "Author - Book (2017)" for the German version.
When browsing the OPDS catalog, both books are shown with the same name, without the release year. German is first in list, English second.
I normally read on an Boox Go 7 Android e-reader using KOReader.

Two days ago I went to the OPDS catalog with this Go 7 and downloaded the version of the book listed first (same name, no way to tell them apart) and got the German version, so I went back into OPDS, downloaded the second in list (this time getting the English version) and started to read. My progress is synced automatically on this device.
Today, wanting to review something when sitting on my PC (running Linux), I opened KOReader there, went to OPDS, downloaded the second entry and tried to pull the progress, getting "no progress found" as error.
I then opened Grimmory and it showed no KOReader progress on the English version, it got pushed to the German version instead!

How can we reproduce it?

I tried to find out what went wrong here, this are the results so far:

Using KOReader on PC, I first downloaded the English version (as written above), then downloaded the German version and got a prompt to overwrite the file. The English book was downloaded as "Author - Book.epub" and KOReader wanted to save the German version under the same name.
When I started to read on the Go 7 two days ago (as written above), I am certain that I got no such message. I don't have the Go 7 with me at the moment, so I'll have to find out what it did later today.

I then tested on my Android phone (third device, not the Go 7) , opening KOReader, going into the OPDS catalog, downloading the German version, pulling progress, no error, but still looking at the first page. Back to OPDS, downloading the English version, overwriting the German one (with prompt). Pulling progress here worked, I got the progress which was pushed on the Go 7 yesterday evening. I then skipped a few pages ahead and pushed the progress, looked into Grimmory and found the KOReader progress of the German version increased a bit.
Then (still on the phone) I downloaded the German version again, pulled progress, still looking at the first page. Skipping ahead, pushing progress, and it too got synced to the German version in Grimmory, overwriting my original progress from the Go 7.
So the both KOReaders on the Android devices (Go 7 and my phone) are both pushing the progress of the English version to the German version in Grimmory. And at least my phone also pushes the progress of the German version to the German version in Grimmory.

Now back to KOReader on the PC, doing the same as on my phone.
Pushing and pulling progress of both, English and German versions (!) is getting synced to the English version in Grimmory (WTF?!).

So in short: KOReader for Android likes the German version more, KOReader for PC the English version.

Progress is synced via the file checksum so this sounds like a koreader issue?
