Describe the feature

I would like to be able to disable all "Assist" features and AI / LLM features with just a single option on the UI.

I got the point: Do it on your own, there are config files, no problem, but we wont implement a simple button to disable it.

I am allready looking into it, but its frustrating, because i cant find any documenation on this.

There are many people asking and the anti AI bubble is rising. Even if you are into the AI game. Please have a ❤️ for the people who don't want to interact with computers in natural language and still love your product.

there is already an open feature request to disable/hide the AI tasks settings, as long as there are no proper integrations providing such feature. But I don't get how the assistant ist related to that?

thank you very much for your answer. AI features are the ability to have a chat/agent do stuff in your home assistant. The “Assistant” is your tool to reach that AI agent through the interface and, in general, communicate with your home assistant in natural language.
Both components are heavily related to LLMs.

Myself and many people out there dislike using those features. It is still ok if people like those features. But I cannot use them because of multiple (personal) reasons.

So, I think both fetearues heavily relate to each other. Am I wrong?

The assistant itself doesn't need any LLM to work. You can extend its possibilities with an LLM, but it's optional. Further the assistant exists in Home Assistant way before any LLM was ever created.

I will think about it. Maybe it is possible to make a disable button for that Assistant as well, together with the ability to disable the AI features. Thanks in advance. I really tried to do it on my own using my configuration.yaml, but I can't figure out why my Home Assistant Instands loads the Assistand anyway.

Edit: For me personally, a log message “Assist has been loaded even it wasn't requested in the config because of the XY Addon / Integration / ... “. What do you think?

The assistant is loaded by the default_configuration, so you could remove the default_config from your configuration.yaml, but then you need to care about all these integrations on your own.

Anyway, I don't see anything harmful in the conversation assistant integration.

About the possibility to disable the AI features, there is an already answered request -> #2238
