History in Energy Dashboard #80

There is a way to do this but it takes a little finesse. If you need to replace a device with another device, and you want to keep the same history, you just need to delete the first entity, and then rename your new entity to have the same entity_id as the first one. Then it will keep the old history and new history going forward. If you want to change a physical device to track something else, what you can do is first delete the entity. (the history will remain in energy dashboard as statistics forever). Then re-integrate the device with a new entity id. Then it will have a fresh start. But yes this isn't the most intuitive process... |

This is really a mess. I also have several outdated devices in the Energy Dashboard, and the number will only grow over the coming months and years. Deleting an entity is not a user-friendly solution to this problem. There should be a way to archive a device. For example, behind my microinverter I have a Homematic IP device. I use it for several purposes:
I can't just delete the entity because it's tied to the device. I'd have to delete the entire device, which would break automations, scripts, and statistics. So for now, I’ve only disabled the entity — but that’s just a workaround. |

I agree this is not acceptable in hassio and Energy panel needs its own history, not a history of entities that come and go. The energy dashhboard is not reliable for long term. |
Uh oh!

Describe your core improvement
I will suggest to keep energy consumption and production of house in DB with actual price in that moment. So when I need to change power meter or use it for different purpose device I will not loose these data .
Current limitations
Before I install FVE I use Zigbee power meter device which was replaced by Smart Meter connected with FVE Inverter and now I monitor consumption / production of my house directly via Inverter. I want to use that old power meter device to detaily monitor other device in my house. But when I made change in Energy Dashboard configuration and move power meter from Grid section into Individual devices I lost all my historical data. If I give it back then my consumption are incorrect because it takes double of that specific device. After some time I need to replace my FVE Inverter to new one (bigger FVE field). So again after replacing senzor from old Inverter to new one I again lost all my historical data and can see only data from time I install new Inverter or use unexisting device entity even I rename new entities with name of old one. But price was not corrected so I lost whole year of monitoring.
Technical benefits
Brings possibility to dynamically change power meters in home in case of failure or requirements of upgrade.
Provide better consumption / production of house report.
