Edit dataset item IDs via UI or add description field

Currently, dataset items support custom IDs during creation via the sdk, but not via UI. Moreover item ids are not editable.

Items can be upserted by providing the existing id to update fields like input, expected output, metadata, or status (e.g., to "ARCHIVED"). However, there is no UI method to change or edit the id itself after creation, making it effectively immutable.

Requested features:

• Add UI support for creating/editing dataset item IDs post-creation.
• Or introduce an additional description field (separate from ID) for human-readable labels.

Use case: Assign highly descriptive, human-readable IDs for easier identification, iteration, and debugging during dataset management and experiments.

Hi @enricchust thanks a lot for sharing this! Would dataset item names be an option here for you? Do you wish to manually set all the custom ids / names yourself? Would this fit into your workflow?
