Need clarification on the permission model for assigning protected prompt labels. Can any project member assign a protected label(such as staging and production) to a prompt, or is this action restricted ONLY to project administrators and owners?

Protected prompt labels restrict who can modify or delete those labels on prompts. Here's how the permission model works:

When a label (such as production or staging) is marked as protected:

• viewer and member roles cannot modify or delete the protected label from prompts. This prevents them from changing which prompt version is marked as production. It also blocks deletion of the prompt itself. (1)

• admin and owner roles can still modify or delete the protected label, allowing them to change the production prompt version. (1)

Who can configure protected labels:

Admins and owners can update a label's protection status in the project settings. (1)

Availability:

Protected prompt labels are available on Team (Cloud) and Enterprise (Cloud and Self-Hosted) plans. They are not available on Hobby or Core plans. (1)

This feature was specifically designed to address the need for fine-grained control over prompt promotion to production, ensuring that only authorized users (admins/owners) can change which prompt version is served in production environments. (1)
