Change Nemo compact view scrolling behaviour #1652

This is already how compact view works. Holding shift does nothing. |

Ah! After trying a lot of things to work out why we disagree on the behaviour of Shift in Compact view, I think I have it worked out. But with my MX Master mouse (which also has a horizontal scrolling thumbwheel), the normal scrollwheel does nothing at all while the thumbwheel scrolls horizontally. Similarly, using the trackpad on my laptop, the normal scrolling action of two-finger up/down does nothing (but two-finger sideways drag does scroll horizontally). Unless I hold Shift down. In contrast, Thunar seems to understand that the compact view cannot scroll vertically (Its the way the layout works), and so for compact view only, both the vertical and the horizontal scroll inputs perform a horizontal scroll without needing Shift. So I guess I'm asking for Nemo to emulate Thunar's behaviour so that I do not have to remember to either change the scrolling input (switching to thumbwheel / horizontal drag) or hold the Shift key just because it's a Compact view that I want to scroll. Now I've discovered that it's just the fact that my mouse has a thumbwheel that makes the normal scrollwheel not work in Compact view, I guess this is not as much an issue as I thought though. |
Uh oh!

I think this should be easy to do:
In Nemo when looking at a folder with lots of files (e.g. /bin) in the Compact view, the mouse scroll wheel does nothing. In order to scroll the view it is necessary to hold the Shift key down.
I suggest that the Compact view, the mouse wheel should automatically scroll horizontally as though shift is pressed. This is already the behaviour of Thunar as an example (or it was last time II used Thunar).
