Old articles show up as new (and how to filter those?)

Sometimes all articles of a feed that was marked as read show up as new. 12 year old stuff.

Why does that happen?

Is there an option to, globally (not per feed), only show articles newer than the last time I marked all as read? (Plus minus a few hours for timezone differences)

Why does that happen?

This usually happens when the unique ID of an article changes in the original feed. Atom uses an id field, while RSS has an optional guid field. If neither is specified in the XML feed, Miniflux attempts to generate a unique article ID based on the available fields.

The FILTER_ENTRY_MAX_AGE_DAYS configuration option was implemented by a contributor in PR #2469. If you set FILTER_ENTRY_MAX_AGE_DAYS=42, only entries that are 42 days old or newer will be saved in the database.

How can we use this on the hosted instance on miniflux?

You can use the filter EntryDate=max-age:30d to ignore articles older than 30 days for example.

So this broke after a miniflux update. This article figured out why: https://perrotta.dev/2026/04/miniflux-cull-old-posts/

To fix:

Settings > Global Feed Settings > Entry Blocking Rules:

EntryDate=max-age:730d

It would be more user friendly if such a setting was automatically transferred over to the new place if its detected.
