OpenSnowcat Terraform Modules - Community Contribution Proposal

Hi OpenSnowcat community! 👋

We've been developing Terraform modules for OpenSnowcat deployment and wanted to gauge community interest in collaborative development.

Current Progress
We're building infrastructure modules for:

• Collector: Stream collector with Kinesis/SQS support
• Enrich: Event enrichment with configurable enrichments
• Iglu Server: Schema registry deployment

Based on proven Snowplow DevOps patterns, adapted for OpenSnowcat with proper HOCON configs, CLI arguments, and Docker image integration.

The Challenge
Many teams want to adopt OpenSnowcat but struggle with infrastructure complexity. While the applications are well-documented, the operational deployment piece often becomes a blocker.

Community Opportunity
Rather than developing these modules in isolation, we think there's value in:

• Shared development effort - Multiple contributors, faster iteration
• Broader testing coverage - Different environments and use cases
• Lower adoption barriers - Ready-to-use infrastructure for new adopters
• Community ownership - Reduces individual maintenance burden

Questions for the Community

1. Interest: Would standardized Terraform modules be valuable for your OpenSnowcat adoption?
2. Collaboration: Would you be interested in contributing/testing during development?
3. Approach: What's the best way to organize this? Official repo, community repo, or individual contributions?

Technical Approach

• Self-contained modules (EC2, ALB, Kinesis, DynamoDB, IAM, scaling)
• Environment-agnostic (test/staging/prod configurations)
• Following Terraform best practices and AWS Well-Architected patterns
• Compatible with existing OpenSnowcat Docker images

Would love to hear thoughts from both users looking to deploy OpenSnowcat and contributors interested in infrastructure tooling!
