A full rewrite from C++ to C

It would help with the stated ideals of this app (low battery usage, being light and fast).

What makes you think so? Did you do any profiling that shows explicitly that the C++ "overhead" is the main issue?

We don't need to do profiling to be sure that less code (work) executed by cpu takes less time and energy.

Measure, rewrite, and measure again. If it is worth it, and the code is not a complete mess, we may consider it.
