Different map quality levels to save storage space

Sometimes, I just want a general idea of an area I haven't been to before, but might travel to soon (or I'm just curious). However, downloading entire large countries can quickly use up all the storage space on my phone. Moreover, it slows down map updates drastically.

It would therefore be great to be able to choose from different OSM-derived maps of varying quality for different regions. For example, I would like the region where I live to be shown in very detailed current standard. Neighbouring regions could be less detailed (so car or bike navigation is still possible, but not every single house is shown), and for other regions I'm just curious about, I would only need the main roads, lakes, mountains, etc.

I am very thankful for Organic Maps — I use it every day!
As I am an Android developer myself, I suspect that implementing and maintaining this feature might be complex. Nevertheless, I believe that it could be a great feature. That is why I am posting this idea nonetheless.
