Getting started to roll-your-own

I'm going to be doing my best to keep EVERYTHING in the open - no magic-and-undocumented stuff, and everything that CAN be automated will be automated!

Also, because I'm lazy AF, everything is going to be as similar as possible. This means that there's going to be a standard build for everything used, and a standard OS and standard layout.

PBX ISO Builder

The ISO Builder currently is the most complicated. The requirements are in the README, but basically this must be a Debian 12 machine, with docker, and some volumes mounted in magic places. Here are the important volumes at time of writing, but please check the repo itself!

• ccache - Used when compiling everything, both in docker and outside of docker. Keep this if you're rebuilding the VM
• /livebuild - Where all the building things should be checked out.
• /usr/local/build - Use fast storage here, it gets a lot of IOPS
• /var/lib/docker - For docker.

Everything Else

Everything else should be Ubuntu 24.04 unless otherwise specified. You can use Ansible to do a make sysprep which will delete and recreate everything identifying if you clone VMs.
