Basics

• "OJS 2" refers to the original website located at https://journals.oregondigital.org.
• "OJS 3" refers to the new website located at https://journals3.oregondigital.org.

Access Information

1. Due to security concerns, the OJS 2 site is only accessible from UO and OSU campus and VPN IP addresses (June 2023).
2. Prior to launch, the OJS 3 journals require a login. Coordinate with OJS admins (Cara/OSU & Franny/UO) for credentials.
3. Contact Cara for access to the tracking spreadsheet for migration and review.

Terminology and hierarchy for OJS journal contents:

• Journals each have their own site in OJS, and the site contains static content such as About pages, an archive of issues, and sometimes other website features.
  • Example: OLA Quarterly
• Issues are published by journals, typically at regular intervals, and they typically contain a collection of Submissions (Articles). Issues have minimal metadata such as Volume, Number, Year, often a Title and Description, and occasionally a DOI. They may also have a cover image. Some journals produce a PDF or other file containing the full issue contents.
  • Example: Vol. 27 No. 1 (2022): Privacy and Confidentiality
• "Submissions" is the OJS term for the separate contents of a journal issue. Articles are the most common type of Submission, but Submissions may also be editorials, book reviews, and other discrete issue components. Submissions are grouped by Sections within an issue. Submissions have a landing page, contain one or more content files, and have more extensive metadata than issues.
  • Example: "Privacy in Practice: Library Public Services and the Intersection of Personal Ideals"
• "Galley File" is the OJS term for the content file containing the text of a submission. Most often this is a PDF file, but OJS permits other file types as well. HTML Galley Files often have additional image and media files embedded.
  • Example: PDF for "Privacy in Practice" submission
• "Supplementary Files" are other files that may be attached to a submission, containing various types of supporting content such as bibliographies, tables, data, etc.
