A concept that may reduce the amount of superfluous collections getting created (for instances that don't manage collections for the users) would be a toggle to generate a private collection for each user on next/first login. This would provide every user their own notebook to keep private notes and get used to the platform without them feeling inclined to generate throwaway collections that pollute the sidebar.
The downside would be potential scaling issues? I don't know if there is an upper limit for collections or how much having a large amount of collections impacts the platform.
