q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.5.1
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.5.1
beta.5.1 adds lights, particles, liquids and ropes, runs physics and particles live in q0player, and fixes a long list of fla imports. strokes get square ends and chosen corners, rotation tweens turn around their anchor, and the editor stays responsive with heavy masks.
lights
an opt-in tool: settings > extra tools > light editor. lights a project already has keep shining while it is off.
- point lights and spotlights that really light the stage: what is drawn under the light layer is multiplied by the light reaching it, so a lamp shows the colours under it instead of washing them out. layers above the light layer, a hud for example, stay as drawn.
- darkness and an ambient colour per timeline: deep blue for night, black for a cave.
- colour, brightness, reach and softness; spotlights add direction, cone width and a soft cone edge. glow adds a halo, and flicker makes a light waver.
- lights can ride along with an object and are keyframed with easing.
- nothing is baked: the editor, exports and q0player light every frame on the gpu.
particles
an opt-in tool: settings > extra tools > particle system.
- emitters spray fire, smoke, sparks, explosions, magic, galaxies, portals, snow, rain, confetti, bubbles, fireflies, fountains, electricity, or copies of a library item.
- simple mode starts from a preset with the settings that matter most. pro mode shows every setting with its ± variance, and size, spin and colour run from a start to an end value over each particle's life.
- particles are baked into ordinary keyframes on a layer of their own, with their drawings in a library folder of their own, so a bake can be redone without touching anything else.
physics
- liquids: streams of particles that flow, splash, hold together in drops and push floating bodies around. thickness, stiffness and stickiness are settings.
- links: ropes, chains, springs, hinges and welds tie one object to another. ropes and chains wobble along as their objects move; length, stiffness, damping and a breaking force are settings, and a link can be drawn as a plain line, a chain or a coil.
- hull and outline colliders follow an object's real artwork. an outline follows a drawn line instead of filling the space around it.
- the solver runs at a simulation rate in hz, so the same settings behave the same at any frame rate. canvas-edge collisions can be turned off or limited to chosen sides.
- previews run on a thread of their own, so a long range or a big liquid never freezes the editor.
q0player and q0lang
- worlds and emitters marked live travel in the movie, and q0lang drives them while it plays:
q0physics.start!,push!,teleport!,gravity!,cut!and more, andq0particles.start!,stop!,burst!,move!andclear!. q0light.on!,off!,move!,color!,brightness!,size!anddarkness!change lights at runtime.- the q0lang documentation is reorganized, with a page of recipes and a downloadable guide.
drawing and animation
- strokes can end round, flat or square, and turn their corners round, sharp or cut. very sharp corners are cut so shaky freehand lines cannot grow spikes.
- a selected straight line has grips on both ends: drag one to turn and stretch the line; shift keeps it at multiples of 45 degrees.
- motion tweens turn around the object's transform anchor, so a rotation around a fixed point stays fixed instead of swinging along a chord. numeric rotation in properties uses the same anchor.
- artwork can live anywhere: the paper sets the output size, not where you can draw. shapes can start off the stage.
- the text tool's caret lands exactly where the glyphs are drawn, the text box hugs its text, and on touch screens a box under the on-screen keyboard moves into view.
fla import
- groups no longer carry their position twice, which threw artwork far off its place.
- symbols resolve by their real library names, including names with stray spaces, so objects are no longer swapped.
- bitmap fills, rectangle and oval primitives, jpeg bitmaps, variable-width strokes, stroke ends and corners, and brightness tints import instead of disappearing.
- legacy binary fla text imports with its fonts and colours, so scenes with text no longer lose everything after it.
- documents over 64 mb and libraries of tens of thousands of items import. drawings that do not fit the project's limits are reported instead of dropped silently.
- a mask layer locked in the fla opens locked with its mask preview on, so it clips as it did in animate. guide layers stay hidden, and buttons import as single-frame symbols.
performance and fixes
- heavy masks the gpu cannot cut are now drawn on a background thread. the stage keeps the last picture while the new one renders instead of freezing on every change.
- characters the interface fonts lack, such as chinese, japanese, korean and symbols, show through system fonts instead of boxes.
- window and menu shadows on dark themes were nearly invisible because of an overflow; they show again.
- some things are only found by those who knock on the right door.
file compatibility
the current readers support q1s v42 and q0s v41. projects are saved in the oldest version that can hold what they use: only projects with particles, liquids, links, live physics or transform anchors need beta.5.1. update both applications; older builds reject files that use the new features.

q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.5
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.5
beta.5 brings q0editor and q0player to android, and adds shape tweens, an opt-in physics editor, autosave with crash recovery, keyframing while dragging, and smoother playback, exports and video.
android
- q0editor and q0player run on arm64 android phones and tablets (android 8.0 or newer) as two separate apps.
- the editor uses a canvas-first touch layout: one top bar, a slim tool column with latching shift/ctrl/alt, a foldable timeline, and library and properties drawers over the canvas. the collapsed timeline bar keeps blank keyframe, insert and remove frame, motion tween and onion skin within reach.
- pinch to zoom, two fingers to pan, two-finger tap to undo, three-finger tap to redo. taps land where you touch, so select, subselect, text and bone placement work by finger.
- the editor runs landscape, full screen and past the camera cutout. the system back button closes the open menu, drawer or text edit before leaving the app.
- open
.q1sand.flafiles from anywhere through the system picker, or with "open with" and "share" from other apps; q0player opens.q0sand.q0vthe same way. saving writes back to the original document where the source app allows it. - exports render inside the app, then ask where to save. mp4 uses the device's h.264 encoder. png sequences arrive as one zip that unpacks into a folder of frames, which android saves anywhere, downloads included.
- q0player for android has touch-sized transport, recent files, full screen playback that keeps the display awake, and on-screen keys for interactive movies. fast preview in q0editor plays its snapshot in the q0player app.
- android system fonts are available to the text tool, with roboto as the default.
- recovery snapshots are written whenever the app leaves the screen.
shape tweens
Create shape tween(ctrl+alt+s) morphs a keyframe's drawing into the next keyframe's: outline, fill, stroke colour and stroke width, with easing.- shapes are matched geometrically without shape hints; they can split, merge and fade.
- shape tweens play in the editor, in outline mode, in q0player and in every export. f6 inside a tween captures the in-between drawing as a keyframe.
- fla/xfl frames using shape tweens import as shape tweens.
physics editor
an opt-in tool: turn it on under settings > extra tools > physics editor. while it is off, nothing of it shows.
- objects fall, bounce and collide in a 2d physics world, and the result is baked into ordinary keyframes that play everywhere.
- simple and pro modes, like rigging. simple offers gravity presets, materials, weight and bounciness; pro exposes gravity, air drag, time scale, steps per frame, wall bounce and friction, and every body setting.
- bodies fall, stay solid, or follow their own animation and push others aside. colliders are boxes or circles fitted to the object.
- collision groups: bodies collide only with bodies in the same group, and every group hits the stage walls.
- momentum comes from how the object moved on the frames before the start, or is set by hand as a throw with speed and spin.
- preview plays the result with the real artwork, with motion trails, before anything is keyed. it follows every change you make.
- bake any range: from here, to the end, the whole timeline or the selected frames, for all bodies or only the selected one. pro can key every few frames and fill the gaps with motion tweens. baking again or removing the keys is one undo step.
autosave and crash recovery
- unsaved documents are copied to a private recovery folder in the background. your project files are only written when you save.
- if q0editor crashes, a final snapshot is written, and home offers the snapshots the next time it starts.
- settings > autosave turns it on or off and sets the interval.
animation and editing
- keyframe while dragging: f6, or the keyframe button on touch screens, keys the objects you are holding and the drag carries on in the new key. the record toggle keys every frame tick while you drag, as one undo step. raw drawings stay raw drawings.
- workspace layouts and layout presets, fast preview, a screen colour picker, playback ranges, mask selection, effects on multiple objects at once, video preview and frame editing.
- zoom in, zoom out and reset glide to the new zoom around the middle of the view instead of jumping and drifting sideways.
- docked panels shrink down to one tool button wide, with thinner separators and no padding around the stage.
- softer window and menu shadows; panels and headers ease open. labels no longer turn into text selections when dragged across, so panels scroll by touch.
- dropping a layer on its own row moves it out of its folder again, the outer edge of a symbol's stroke is clickable again, and a folder that contains itself is reported as a folder cycle.
q0player
- masked layers are cut on the gpu, with anti-aliasing, like in the editor. big projects no longer fall back to slow, jagged full-frame cpu rendering.
- only the stage is shown; artwork parked beside it stays out of view.
video and export
- q0v stores repeated frames once, uses the strongest png compression and drops the alpha channel of opaque frames. it stays lossless and seekable.
- identical video buffers are shared as soon as copies appear, so several copies of one video no longer decode every frame separately until the project is reloaded.
- video-only q0v export no longer fails its own verification.
- the export window updates its progress a few times a second instead of on every screen refresh, leaving more of the machine to the export itself.
performance and fixes
- selecting a fill made by bucket fills, cuts and merges could take seconds because of invisible leftover fragments. those fragments are no longer created, and fill geometry ignores existing ones.
- holding the hand tool no longer redraws the editor continuously while nothing moves.
file compatibility
the current readers support q1s v40 and q0s v38. projects are saved in the oldest version that can hold what they use: only projects with shape tweens or physics need beta.5. update both applications; older builds reject files that use the new features.

build details
the windows installers were built from the tagged commit after formatting, workspace tests and strict clippy passed. the android apks are arm64 builds of the same commit and were installed and started on a test phone. png sequence export on android was changed after the last phone test and has unit tests, not a device run.
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4.2
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4.2
beta.4.2 improves animation workflows, legacy fla import, audio editing, canvas correctness, and selection performance.
timeline and animation
- the timeline ruler stays visible while scrolling through layers. horizontal frame scrolling keeps the ruler aligned with the frames, and the frame scrollbar stays above the layer list.
- global hide/show and outline controls join the lock-all button, including layers inside collapsed folders.
- folder rows follow the lengths of their contents instead of keeping an otherwise shortened animation thousands of frames long. existing projects are normalized when opened, and fla folder spans no longer extend the imported animation by themselves.
- creating a keyframe after shortening a layer carries forward the previous drawing.
- undo and redo restore the relevant timeline position.
- transform anchors carry across inserted keyframes, including multiple selected objects, and follow objects dragged directly without first selecting them.
- symbol conversion preserves the selected objects' internal stacking order.
- corrected
Spread between layersandSpread between keyframes, including distribution of a single selected object. - onion-skin options can include unlocked layers, and layer headers remain separate from horizontal frame scrolling.
- playback can loop through a chosen frame range. a separate animation preview uses the project camera.
symbols, selection, and drawing
Duplicate Symbolcreates an independent editable symbol and copies its nested dependencies, so edits to the duplicate do not change the original.- bring-forward and send-backward actions move selected objects by one stacking step, with configurable shortcuts.
- shift selection supports adding and removing objects during continued selection gestures.
- less accidental entry into symbol editing from rapid clicks; in-place editing keeps the surrounding artwork visible.
- arrow keys move selected artwork, with a smaller step while holding shift.
- line bending belongs to subselect, leaving ordinary selection available for moving the line.
- rectangle selection can include both fills and strokes.
- clipped raw-area selection caches its geometry and paint meshes. panning and zooming no longer repeat dense contour intersections and unions on every repaint.
- corrected transform-handle interaction, including shift resizing from the handle's outer hit area.
- corrected bucket-fill targeting, boundary coverage, and stacking. bucket-created fills participate in raw drawing editing and merging.
- objects on held frames become editable after creating the needed keyframe, without requiring an undo to refresh them.
rigs, masks, and effects
- rig transforms, outlines, and selection bounds follow the evaluated rig pose.
- held rig poses and keyframed binding corrections support editing on the current frame without rewriting earlier poses. rig pose interpolation is explicit rather than forced.
- empty mask frames pass their contents through instead of clipping everything away.
- tint color effects use the vector rendering path for supported artwork, including nested symbols and gradients; effect combinations retain their existing fallbacks.
audio
- clearer audio waveforms and clip controls in the timeline and properties.
- audio scrubbing while moving the playhead, with short ramps to reduce clicks between snippets.
- audio can start on blank keyframes and be split or stopped at other keys.
- source offsets, duration, gain, pan, fades, mute, and looping are available as clip settings.
- waveform generation runs in the background and cached source data survives unrelated artwork edits, reducing stalls when adding and working with audio.
fla import and settings
- legacy binary fla import now decodes structured scene and library streams, including supported layer/frame data, symbol placements, groups, text, and bitmap data, rather than relying only on static shape recovery. this remains partial format support; unsupported content is reported through import warnings.
- corrected archive object references, shape/style parsing, and imported transforms that could leave sprite packs scattered or missing artwork.
- additional folder and playback-range corrections for imported projects.
- library and properties panels no longer grow sideways as search fields or their contents change.
- light-theme and custom blue accents survive restart. removed the old settings migration that replaced that blue with red in both q0editor and q0player. if the incorrect red accent was already saved, select the light theme once after updating.
file compatibility
the current readers support q1s v35 and q0s v34, including the new rig, tint, and audio fields. update both applications; older builds may reject projects or exports that use the new fields.

q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4.1 - polish overhaul
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4.1
this is a substantial update to beta.4: expanded fla compatibility, scene and library organization, timeline improvements, edit mode in place, performance work, and the polish overhaul.
polish overhaul
- shared vector icons replace many text buttons across the timeline, document tabs, library, scene controls, and rig controls. the icons do not depend on special font glyphs; hover hints explain their actions.
- menu shortcuts and tool hints show the user's actual configured bindings.
- the layer-name column can be resized, reduced to an icon-focused view, and reset by double-clicking its divider. its width is saved between launches.
- long scene, layer, tab, and replacement-card names use the available space and show their full names in tooltips.
- clearer active tabs, unsaved-change indicators, drag handles, and compact playback controls.
- search fields have a clear button and escape handling. rename controls accept enter, cancel with escape, and reject blank names.
- frame picker and replacement cards share their appearance and adaptive preview backgrounds.
- clicking a breadcrumb inside nested symbols now returns to the selected level and restores the parent frame.
- removed placeholder characters from effect and rig controls and clarified several tool hints.
scenes, library, and symbol workflows
- scene switching and renaming in a compact list in project properties.
- library folders, including imported animate library folders; replacement previews are grouped by folder.
Replace q0rgis available from the stage context menu and instance properties. replacements belong to the current keyframe, create a keyframe when needed, and carry forward into later keyframes.- replacement fitting keeps proportions while preserving the previous instance's visual scale as closely as the artwork bounds allow.
- the replacement window opens at the current symbol, highlights it, and opens its folder.
Spread between layersandSpread between keyframesdistribute selected objects in their depth order through the context menu.- cross-project copy and paste carries the required symbol/asset dependencies and preserves object stacking order. ordinary object paste uses the destination layer.
- quick horizontal and vertical flips, alt-drag duplication, and
Copy Symbolin the context menu. - library selection supports shift and ctrl workflows; project tabs can be reordered.
- selecting a stage object follows its layer in the timeline; shift selection toggles only the clicked object. inserting a keyframe keeps the selected objects.
- edit mode in place keeps the parent artwork visible around the symbol being edited, using the instance's transform.
- project creation remembers custom dimensions, fps, and frame count; keyboard shortcuts can be customized and reset.
timeline and masks
- layers can have independent timeline lengths. removing selected frames shortens and shifts only the affected layers, including empty spans; cells after that layer's end are beyond cells.
Shift+F5and the frame context menu use the layer-local removal action. deleting complete time columns remains a separate operation.F5inserts hold frames on selected layers. selecting beyond cells can extend several layers withF5orF6.- distant keyframes do not shift existing keys. extending a timeline by one keyframe can extend layers that ended at the same point, while shorter layers stay shorter.
- frame and layer context menus show actions appropriate to the clicked area.
- ctrl-click frame selection, multiple-layer movement, lock-all layers, timeline hiding, and layer-specific outline controls.
- onion skin follows the active layer.
- mask layers have their own icon, collapsible contents, group visibility, and a separate artwork/preview control.
- while mask artwork is visible, its contents stay visible without clipping for editing. hiding the artwork previews the clipped result. the artwork control uses a stencil icon distinct from the normal eye.
- nested symbols, library previews, and exports retain the composited mask result. supported masks use the vector/gpu path; unsupported combinations use the software fallback.
fla/xfl import and file compatibility
- xfl-based fla import now carries vector artwork, symbol instances, text, media, scenes, folders, playback settings, camera information, and timeline masks, with diagnostics for unsupported content.
- imported groups are converted into q0rg symbols so their nesting and transforms are retained.
- import corrections cover folder ordering, out-of-range playback frames, zero text sizes, invalid filter values, and degenerate gradient transforms.
- text positioning and camera/background handling have been improved.
- legacy binary fla containers now have an initial recovery path. this is partial support: recoverable vectors are imported as static artwork; legacy timeline animation, symbol placements, text, and bitmap media are not mapped yet.
- multiline on-canvas text entry, transformed text editing, and deselection by clicking outside the text box.
- canonical project save/parse-back fixes and updated format readers in q0player.
- current file versions are q1s v32 and q0s v31. update both q0editor and q0player; older builds may reject files written with the new fields.
performance and canvas correctness
- reduced repeated scene traversal, geometry construction, bounding-box work, and off-screen library work on large projects.
- more targeted render-cache invalidation after edits, including eraser operations, and reduced clipboard dependency snapshots.
- fixes for stale artwork after dragging: rendered objects, selection bounds, and transform anchors are synchronized.
- performance snapshots remain available through
F4or its configured replacement. - these changes target expensive editor paths; performance still depends on the project's visible content and effects.

q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.4
highlights
- manual q0rg frame picker: choose manual in properties to browse scrollable frame previews. the grid packs as many cards across as fit; choosing a frame applies it to the current keyframe and matching later keyframes.
- richer performance snapshots: press f4 for scene-specific diagnostics including zoom and pan, the active q0rg/frame, placement and rendering workload, filter pixel estimates, and non-blocking gpu timing samples where supported.
- editor fixes: improved library selection, cross-project library transfers and drag previews; fixed vector drops, q0rg reflection scaling, stage render input synchronization, and partial raw-stroke editing.
- rendering and format updates: camera tracks, gradient rendering, and manual nested-q0rg playback are carried through the current project formats. q0s format is v27; q1s format is v28.
- early fla/xfl import: the first importer pass reads document and timeline structure from xfl-based fla archives and reports limitations. it does not yet import artwork, symbols, text, media, or scripts; legacy binary fla files are not supported.
- windows arm64: native arm64 installers join the x64 installers for both q0editor and q0player.

q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.2 - second public beta
q0idmation v0.1.0-beta.2
second public beta. this one is a much bigger jump than the version number looks.
highlights
- real paint bucket for raw vector art: fills enclosed regions, understands intersections between open strokes, preserves holes and keeps existing bezier geometry intact when recolouring.
- classic brush polish and performance: pressure/min-size and speed dynamics, better live preview handoff, no release-dot beads, bounded long-stroke work, fewer progressive stalls, and stronger smoothing/topology regressions.
- advanced brush system with its own vector fill-only engine, dynamics, stabilizer, tip roundness/angle, taper, velocity response, glow materials and a shared brush library.
- raw graphics selection overhaul: connected regions stay independent, holes behave correctly, marquee/partial selection no longer falls back to the whole raw placement, and zoom/first-drag performance is heavily improved.
- q0rg appearance/fx work: vector-aware glow/blur handling, editable appearance fragments, improved hit testing, faster selection/dragging, gpu blend paths and fixes for zoom-dependent fx drift/stalls.
- rigging arrives: simple/pro editor views, bone hierarchies, ik/fk workflows, controls, constraints, pose/variant systems, deformers, skinning and runtime-driven rig channels.
- timeline audio: imported audio lives on the timeline instead of the stage, with waveform previews, bounded playback work, clip gain/mute persistence and q0s/q0v runtime playback support.
- q0lang now has a real qvm path: compiled bytecode, functions, control flow, instruction budgets, runtime rig commands and bundled scene switching while preserving one game kernel across projects.
- q0player runtime upgrades: one-frame interactive projects can keep ticking, game input reaches q0lang, bundled scene switching works, rig/runtime overrides render in the player, and q0v audio/video seek stays on one clock.
- editor polish: nested layer folders, project tree, frame q0lang editor, improved single-instance file forwarding, stronger file associations and a github-backed release feed with retry + atom fallback.
