Coming soon: Native Owncast plugins

As it stands, v0.3.0 is scheduled to support plugins. This allows people who want to add certain types of functionality to Owncast to do so by authoring their own pieces of software that run within Owncast itself, as opposed to the current solution of the web APIs. (Though the web APIs are obviously not going anywhere)

Here's some ideas:

• UI updates (you could even ship a standalone plugin that's a theme).
• Chat bots.
• SSE support for you to build things like chat overlays.
• Serve your own assets over HTTP
• Custom notification methods.
• Build your own authentication, to keep your Owncast server behind a login.
• Set your video configurations to any specific an customized settings.
• Add new tabs to the Owncast UI with static or dynamic content.
• Register and query Owncast users.
• Build your own chat filters or modifiers.
  ... it's kind of up to you.

Clearly there are no real plugins written yet, and this functionality is all brand new, therefore none of the ecosystem has been proven out.

This is how you come in. If you want to start work on a plugin, and have it ready for people, you can start on it now. Additionally, without people building things, and exercising the framework I can't be sure things are working the way that is most helpful to you.

So this is what I propose: Join us in the Owncast community chat, and I can personally discuss what you want to build, pointing you in the right direction with documentation, sample code, and more.
