Why was this change needed?

While the code in place did work - I was looking at what bootstrap/jQuery updates would require. There are some elements whose visibility is toggled using vanilla JS, and others that are toggled by jQuery. This particular one was doing something really weird where instead of just being visible or hidden, it was copying content from a different hidden div...so I feared that it was 1) unreasonably hard to trace, and 2) susceptible to breakage upon core library upgrades in the near future.
