Proposal

We propose to produce an interactive visualization of airplane crashes on a world map. It would be possible to filter crashes by year, operator or number of deaths. Crashes would be shown as circles, with various diameters according to the number of fatalities, and different colors for the operaor.

Dataset

This work uses a dataset presenting the full history of airplane crashes throughout the world, from 1908 to 2009. This dataset is public and hosted by Open Data by Socrata here.

For each crash, the informations available are the date and time, a textual location, the operator, the flight number, the route, and the type of the aircraft.
