How to use memories?

I have my LLM hosted on my LM studio. I can chat with the various models there from Odysseus and it just doesn't seem to remember things between sessions. I do a /memory add my favorite color is cyan and it knows it for that chat and context but next time I chat about something else it doesn't remember that.

What's the point of memories if they're limited to the 16k context of a chat window?

You leave the server running and it makes new memories by itself, it won’t happen instantly. Thats the idea anyway.

You might not have any agents set up to create memories yet. Check settings.

Try adding your colour memory in the memory editor manually.

Does it happen regardless of where the LLM is hosted? I am not using the cookbook as it doesn't use my GPU correctly. It's the same model hosted in lm studio which is just a skin of llama.cpp.

I don't see a job for creating memories, it's all defaults and the it's enabled to have memories.

It says right there 1 memory recalled. it is working. You don't need to tell it to remember things, you just use it, and it slowly makes its own memories. You can add memories manually to start the ball rolling but really just using it, a lot, and leaving it running overnight is how it's meant to work.

That's a memory I manually added.

I added a few and opening a new chat omits it for next chat.
