I have a DS1514+ with an Intel Atom C2538. In the official minio/minio channel I could install a version running on these older cpus.

Please release a version that can support cpuv1 architectures

Going back to minio/minio running the old release

@spaceg00se-r have you tried directly from the CLI (not the GUI)? You can also try my image if you like and see if that works.

@11notes no, i have not tried via the CLI. Are there images around specifically for cpuv1?

@spaceg00se-r Ah sorry I missed to check your CPU, which does not support AVX, so no, you can’t run Minio on it since AVX is required for the hashing. Then again, the Synology DS1817+ is almost 10 years old, better get a used IntelNUC or SFF compute device with more up to date CPU instruction sets.

@11notes yes it is an older device. However it still works completely fine without any problems at all. Thererfore I'll not replace it anytime soon. I don't see why something cannot run on an intel atom anymore when it used to run on it. If minio is not working anymore I'll move to another system. It's a pity since minio was a very cool piece of software.

Your CPU does not support AVX. AVX improves the performance of Minio dramatically, so it makes absolutely sense to use something that is available since 2013. Not using AVX just to be able to support CPUs that are not meant to run Minio anyway would be a bad design decision. Plenty of old hardware still runs but is not worth running due to power usage, CPU microcode and firmware EOL.

Also, personal opinion, as NAS is a NAS, not an application server. Just because you ran run containers on any compute device that can run Linux, does not mean you should. Use your NAS just for storage and get a NUC or SFF device to run your apps. You will be much happier.
