opening links after having found them in Find mode

Hi there,

I would like to search for a link with "/", "n", and "p", and then open it when I have it selected instead of having to then go to link hints mode and type the link's id. What do you guys think?

I'd like this too. If I'm not mistaken, vimperator achieves this by implementing the search function itself (rather than using window.find(), which is what vimium is currently doing.)

There are two related features we could look at:

1. Adding a link hints mode where you type the name of the link, and when you uniquely identify a link, it's opened. I'm not a fan of this because I think link hints works better 90% of the time.
2. Having our find mode be a little smarter and focus the link if the text of your search result resides inside a link. Then, when you hit enter, it will pass through to the link. What do you think?

I think option 2 would be perfect!

You could use Ctrl-] to open the link in the current tab or Ctrl-\ to open it in a new tab. This would be in the spirit of ctags with vim.

I think #2 is perfect. However this goes beyond links. I simply want to be able to focus the browser wherever I found something, so I can get to that field or link faster.

To option 1: This worked perfect for me in vrome (which I used until it stopped working with recent chromium builds) and I really miss that feature! And afaik this is the way vimperator works too.

So I'd really love to see something similar available within vimium.

We kind of have option 1 done already (filtering link hints), but that filtering only applies to links which are in the current viewport. However, I'd like option 2 as well -- there are times when I want to search for a link in the whole page.

In fact, it looks like the findAndFollowLink function (used by goPrev/goNext) can be easily adapted to do option 2. Phil -- if you're okay with this I'll go ahead and do it.

This doesn't seem to work for me. I go into search mode, find text that resides within a link, and hit enter, and nothing happens. Am I missing something?
