I did not have build-essential installed and ran into some errors on the make step. Might be good just to remind people that they need the basic build tools installed.

Which version of V8 are you trying to compile? V8 also ships its own version of libicu, which you could use (so you have to fix the rpath on the main library then, i.e. chrpath -r '$ORIGIN' libv8.so, see older versions of the README file like (https://github.com/phpv8/v8js/blob/de0b8e2aa809ff92bff4685bc479cf4b8721d774/README.Linux.md)
