Ask. Add a "Pin globally" option for pinned threads, so a thread stays at the top of the sidebar whatever the project filter is set to. I have a working prototype and would like a yes or no on the direction before I open a PR.
Problem. I keep the threads that run my other work in an "Orchestration" project: a controller thread that dispatches work to other projects and reports back, and one or two like it. They're pinned. I use the project filter all day.
To get back to the controller I switch the filter to Orchestration, then click the thread. Switching the filter doesn't change the open thread, so if I forget the second click I'm still in the thread from the project I just left. I often forget, and start work in the wrong project.
Pinning doesn't help, because a pin only shows while its project is in the filter.
Proposal. Let a pinned thread be pinned globally.
Nothing else about pins changes. Settle, snooze, drag order and search work as they do today.
With the controller pinned globally, it's one click from any filter, and the filter stays on the project I'm working in.
Prototype. The screenshots are from a prototype of the web and desktop sidebar on current main. It's about 50 lines of app code plus tests. The list of globally pinned threads is kept on the device in localStorage, the same way the sidebar remembers collapsed sections, so there's no server or contract change. It doesn't cover mobile. The new menu and filter tests, the web test suite and the web typecheck pass.
