The onnx app isn't building and hasn't been for a while. How can I help heal the build? I'm new to piwheels and the infrastructure here.

Checking the build logs, this package's build process relies on cloning dependencies with git. We don't allow this. Please open an issue with the maintainer and ask them to use more standard packaging practices.

Deleted that build for a retry

We shouldn't be seeing this any more - Pis are now configured to shut down at 90% disk usage. Just checked and the current builders are around 50% - but this log is from yesterday :/ I'll have a look at building it manually to see what happens.

We just faced that when installing Home Assistant (as Python module) via pip. Investigating what it does revealed that pip is exceptionally bad in using /tmp efficiently, leaving downloaded tarballs, extracted sources, metadata, build dirs with in case downloaded 3rd party sources (like those Git clones piwheels does not allow 😄), compiled wheels if --no-cache is used, and some other stuff, for all modules and all their dependencies in /tmp, until the very last finished. So when installing (or building) larger projects with lots of dependencies, /tmp usage grows a lot, in case of Home Assistant on riscv64 (where many deps need to be compiled) above 2 GiB (where it failed, and I did not test until where it really goes).

export TMPDIR=/var/tmp could be used to avoid it, but slows down builds if they are not causing swapping.

It seems like this is done by some CMake module, and as part of Protobuf, since any explicit mention of Abseil was removed a while ago:

In Trixie there's a tmpfs /tmp partition which is automatically half the RAM size, so I've disabled that. That should be the reason for (1) many failures caused by No space left on device and (2) truncated logs.

I've requeued all those with No space left on device errors, but there are a lot, and I've spun up some extra Trixie builders.

A tmpfs however is much faster, usually good to use for builds. But yeah, in this case, with limited RAM size, some builds using much space in /tmp and/or much memory for build processes, it is probably difficult to get it right with a /tmp tmpfs. And if it only works with disk swapping, then nothing was won.
