You have a cell phone, right? With a vibration feature when new messages arrive? And you have a gamepad with a rumble feature - normally used for playing games? Well, you do the math.
It implements the Notification Daemon dbus interface, similar to services like dunst. Programs like thunderbird or IntelliJ idea use this interface to send notifications about new mails, successful compilation and so on. Normally, this is shown as a text somewhere on the top right.
rumblenotify doesn’t show anything, it looks for a game pad in /dev/input/ that can rumble. Currently, it’s only tested with the xpad driver (XBox gamepads). And you need evdev in your kernel. Shouldn’t be a problem though.
You need
- dbus
- glib
Then just make and start via ./rumblenotify.
Of what?
I mostly stole the code from dunst and fftest.c. Thanks for the hard work.
