MGuide — campus map built on Zustand

MGuide (mguide.app) is an interactive campus map for the University of Michigan, using Zustand as its sole state management solution.

The store manages all app state through individual selectors — no destructuring the whole store. Patterns used:

• 20+ hooks reading from the store with fine-grained selectors
• Panel mutual exclusion via a helper that only fires on open, spreading returned state into the setter
• Persisted preferences (dark mode, map theme, accessible route mode, game mode) via localStorage with migration logic for removed values
• Camera restore — snapshots pre-selection camera state, restores on deselect if user did not manually pan
• Real-time transit state — vehicle positions and predictions updated on polling intervals
• Toast system — fires a floating pill notification, auto-dismisses after 3s

Zustand made it straightforward to keep a single source of truth across the map, bottom sheets, navigation, transit, schedule, and game mode systems without provider wrappers.
