Updating vs Reinstalling Cosmic

Is it necessary to completely reinstall Cosmic between Alpha versions to replace/remove config files, etc, or are the usual packager manager updates enough?

You can just install updates as normal through the package manager. The alpha "releases" are just isos built from the latest packages available at that time, and tags in the various Git repos for non-Pop!_OS distros to target.

Edit: The config file question is valid, but there haven't been any major breaking changes so far, and those are generally being avoided even though we're still in alpha.

Ah thanks. I've updated to Alpha 6 and I'm missing a lot of the features mentioned in the blog but I guess it could be an issue with my distro's package.

What kind of features are you missing, and what distro are you using?

I'm using CachyOS, whose maintainer also makes the Arch packages.
The features I've checked so far that are missing are the scroll bar for the launcher (it still shows 8 items max) and numlock not being remembered.
Shutting down via the launcher also doesn't ask for confirmation as it is apparently now supposed to in alpha 6 but I prefer that so I shan't complain.

The extra scaling option exists in settings though, so the upgrade has gone at least partially correctly.

Perhaps they haven't updated the pop-launcher package yet.

pop-launcher is version 1.2.4.
I'll make a fresh installation on a separate drive soon and see if works from that.

Edit: I see what you mean about updating pop-launcher now, the commit with (what I assume to be) the shutdown confirmation change is newer than the release. If that's right, I'll raise it with the package maintainer.
