@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 20:41

Native Notes 2.4.5

This maintenance release updates the distribution process and repairs guide links. Appearance, editor tools, defaults, and settings behavior are unchanged; main.js and styles.css are identical to 2.4.4.

Development now takes place in a private repository. The public Native Notes repository continues to provide installation files, releases, and user guides, and updates remain available through Obsidian. Copies of previously published source may remain available.

Release publishing verifies the installation files before making a new version available for updates. The minimum supported Obsidian version remains 1.13.0.

Native Notes 2.4.4

Native Notes' settings and guides now describe its own features directly. Floating outline and code highlighting keep the same behavior and defaults, with clearer descriptions and refreshed settings screenshots.

  • Updates the app's settings descriptions, installation guide, code guide, and community listing.
  • Refreshes the Optional features and Code blocks screenshots to match the current interface.
  • Preserves all appearance preferences, notes, highlighting, and profile transfer behavior.

The intentional clipboard-write advisory for code Copy and profile Copy remains disclosed. Validation includes all 336 automated tests, lint, build, and the full dependency audit. See the validation record for the actual device-check scope.

Native Notes 2.4.3

Callouts now use the Grouped cards design: rounded neutral surfaces, compact tinted icon tiles, neutral titles, and a subtle title/body divider. Notes, tips, warnings, and custom callouts retain their semantic colors without tinting the entire card.

  • Applies the new appearance in Live Preview and Reading view, including nested and collapsible callouts.
  • Keeps the Live Preview edit control clear of the title and preserves touch targets.
  • Respects reduced motion for the callout edit control.
  • Refreshes the Notes/light and Ocean/dark documentation and community-gallery screenshots with the current interface and public sample content.

The change does not rewrite notes or change saved appearance preferences. Code highlighting and profile Copy are retained; their intentional clipboard-write advisory remains disclosed.

Validation: all 336 tests, lint, build, local packaging, and the dependency audit pass. Live macOS Obsidian checks cover light/dark appearances, Reading view, Live Preview, source preservation, collapse, nesting, custom colors, 320px panes, pop-out windows, and plugin cleanup. Mobile touch sizes were checked with a desktop fixture, not an iPhone or iPad. See the validation record for scope and remaining device checks.

Native Notes 2.4.2

Corrects the manifest description to meet the community directory’s wording requirements. The normal lint command now validates manifest.json as well as source and package metadata, so description violations are caught before release.

This is a metadata and validation update. The compact 3,774,932-byte JavaScript and CSS are byte-for-byte identical to 2.4.1. Built-in highlighting, all 197 language definitions, code controls, settings, and full license notices are unchanged. There is no need to change notes or preferences.

The code highlighting guide includes examples and migration limits. Code Copy and profile Copy remain explicit, intentional clipboard writes; the plugin never reads the clipboard.

Validation passes 336 automated tests, manifest checks, ESLint, production build, and portable package verification. Runtime asset equality with 2.4.1 is verified.

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 18:20

Native Notes 2.4.1

Keeps the built-in highlighter within Obsidian Sync Standard’s 5 MB per-file limit. Version 2.4.0 bundled readable grammar data in a 9.28 MB JavaScript file, which the community directory correctly flagged as too large for that plan.

This release compresses only the bundled grammar JSON during the build and decodes it locally when a language is loaded. The JavaScript remains readable, all 197 language definitions remain available, and the full third-party notices stay inside the release asset. No network requests, separate language downloads, executable-code compression, or note changes are involved.

The final main.js is 3,774,932 bytes (3.77 MB). The build now rejects release assets above 5,000,000 bytes. Grammar round-trip tests and an offline browser fixture check the production decoder and preserve the original syntax definitions. This is a packaging change; code settings, frames, editable headers, and the 2.4.0 feature set remain the same.

Code Copy and profile Copy remain explicit, intentional clipboard writes. The plugin never reads the clipboard. See the code highlighting guide and validation record.

Validation on Node.js 24.22.1 passes 334 automated tests, lint, production build, portable package verification, and a full dependency audit with zero reported vulnerabilities. The installed macOS Obsidian 1.14.5 build successfully decoded TypeScript, C++, and Python and rendered a titled frame with line numbers. The patch installation preserved the note hashes and saved preferences checked immediately before it, and added no developer errors. No physical Windows/Linux or iPhone/iPad testing is claimed.

Native Notes 2.4.0

Code highlighting is now built into Native Notes. You can disable the separate Shiki Highlighter plugin and keep highlighted code, filename and terminal frames, Copy controls, and editable Live Preview headers in one plugin.

  • Adds bundled syntax highlighting in rendered blocks and the editor, plus inline code using a prefix such as `{js} const count = 1`.
  • Adds line/text markers, line numbers with configurable starting numbers, wrapping, and collapsible sections through code-fence metadata.
  • Adds a Code blocks settings section. Highlighting and inline highlighting start on; line numbers and wrapping start off; the default frame is Auto. Per-block options override these defaults, and all choices travel in settings profiles.
  • Uses the Native Notes palette and Obsidian's light/dark mode. No separate code-theme selector, custom theme/grammar folders, or runtime downloads are required.
  • Preserves independent filename/language editing, normal undo, viewport position, and static Reading-view headers. Code is displayed, not executed.

The bundled set contains 197 language definitions plus plain text and ANSI output. Thirty-eight upstream languages are excluded because their grammars or dependencies do not have reviewed permissive redistribution notices. Unavailable languages remain readable as plain code. C++, Ruby, Julia, Just, reStructuredText, and Twig remain supported through adapted dependencies; embedded GLSL in C++ raw strings has no separate GLSL highlighting. See the language list and usage guide for supported languages, metadata, and limits.

Turn off Shiki Highlighter before using built-in highlighting to avoid competing renderers. Native Notes does not import or change that plugin's preferences. Existing supported fence metadata can remain in notes. The verified macOS installation preserved the existing Native Notes data.json; Shiki Highlighter's files were retained while its plugin was disabled for the replacement.

Code-block Copy and Profiles → Export → Copy are intentional clipboard writes performed only after the user selects them. Native Notes does not read the clipboard. The capability advisory remains disclosed.

Built with Shiki and Expressive Code, with original package, grammar, and Oniguruma notices preserved in third-party notices and embedded in the distributed main.js. The integration investigation records the inspected Shiki Highlighter 0.7.7 reference and the limits of that evidence.

Validation passes on Node.js 24.22.1: 331 automated tests, lint without errors or warnings, production build, portable packaging, and a full dependency audit with zero reported vulnerabilities. Live macOS Obsidian 1.14.5 checks with Shiki Highlighter disabled verified TypeScript, Python, shell, inline code, line numbers, collapsed sections, and independent filename/language editing with a measured 0px scroll change. Frame defaults and per-block overrides, wrapping, disable/re-enable cleanup, and inline toggles passed without reopening the note or changing its bytes. Full plugin unload removed all owned styles, frames, inline highlighting, and body classes before successful re-enable. Reading-view headers stayed static, including the retained hidden editor. The code prepared for Copy matched the source, including collapsed content; the operating system clipboard was not exercised. See the validation record for exact scope. No native Windows/Linux or physical iPhone/iPad testing is claimed.

Native Notes 2.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 13:38

Native Notes 2.3.0

Native Notes now focuses on appearance, editing tools, and portable preferences. The settings page contains Appearance, Optional features, and Profiles.

  • Removes iCloud and OneDrive folder setup, location checks, and provider selection.
  • Removes local and shared recovery capture, history browsing, restoration controls, and recovery commands.
  • Retains the theme presets, floating outline, bundled icons, editor refinements, Shiki integration, and appearance profiles.
  • Leaves earlier recovery preferences, local databases, shared-history files, and restored copies untouched. No existing note or history file is deleted by the removal.

Your operating system's sync service continues independently. Updating Native Notes does not move the vault or change cloud accounts, sync settings, or existing transfers. Version 2.3 does not create new recovery snapshots or open older history; review the data-preservation guidance before updating if you need an earlier saved version.

The profile Copy action remains available and its intentional clipboard-write advisory remains disclosed.

Validation passes on Node.js 24.22.1: all 293 tests, lint with no errors or warnings, the production build, portable packaging, and a full dependency audit with zero vulnerabilities. A live macOS upgrade confirms removal of the controls and background recovery, preserves existing notes/settings/history, and passes disable/re-enable cleanup. See the validation record for exact scope. Physical Windows/Linux/iPhone/iPad testing remains unverified.

Native Notes 2.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 12:20

Native Notes 2.2.0

OneDrive setup now uses the installed OneDrive desktop app on Mac and Windows. Open your vault inside its synced folder, keep the entire vault downloaded, and choose OneDrive under Cloud folders and recovery. Native Notes provides guidance and optional recovery history; the OneDrive app handles file transfers.

  • Choose iCloud or OneDrive setup in one settings section. Common OneDrive folders are recognized, and custom desktop locations can be confirmed for the current vault.
  • Open the same existing, downloaded vault on another computer. The setup guide covers Always keep on this device, backups, and checking both transfer directions.
  • Local and shared recovery use the existing history system. Existing iCloud settings and saved versions are retained. Changing the selected service pauses recovery and turns shared capture off without moving files or deleting history.
  • Read shared versions that have arrived in the vault and restore a separate copy. Turning recovery off does not stop the operating system's file transfers.

There is no plugin-managed Microsoft sign-in, application registration, client ID, token storage, or direct upload. A recognized or confirmed folder is not proof of cloud delivery.

Platform scope: OneDrive folder setup supports Mac and Windows. Obsidian cannot directly open a OneDrive-backed vault through the OneDrive app on iPhone or iPad; keep iCloud as the Apple mobile option. This setup does not configure a OneDrive client on Linux or Android. Native Notes appearance and local recovery remain available independently of provider support.

Validation covers 450 automated tests, dependency auditing, lint, reproducible build output, portable packaging, and a macOS runtime check. Automated Windows/Linux fixtures and CI are distinct from physical device testing. Actual OneDrive delivery between computers and physical iPhone/iPad behavior remain unverified.

The profile Copy action is retained. Its intentional clipboard-write advisory and the vault-enumeration advisory for optional recovery remain disclosed.

Setup, recovery, and platform guidance

Native Notes 2.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 04:48

Native Notes 2.1.1

This maintenance update separates dependency installation from vulnerability auditing. A slow npm advisory service could leave installation waiting for minutes after the packages had already installed, interrupting automated source review. CI and release publication now run a separate, bounded audit of all dependencies and stop on vulnerabilities or audit-service errors.

The plugin's JavaScript and styles are unchanged from 2.1.0. This update does not migrate vaults, change notes, reset preferences, or alter recovery history.

The iCloud setup and recovery guide now explains multiple vaults: each has its own folder, preferences, and history; recovery choices are made per vault on each device. Three additional tests cover matching filenames in separate vaults, history isolation after reopening, and independent capture controls.

Validation includes 409 automated tests, lint, build reproducibility, portable packaging, and the required full-dependency audit. Physical iPhone/iPad testing and real two-device delivery remain unverified. Apple handles iCloud transfers; Native Notes supplies setup guidance and optional recovery history. OneDrive integration remains planned for 2.2.

Native Notes 2.1.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 02:09

Native Notes 2.1.0

Native Notes 2.1 adds an iCloud setup wizard and optional shared recovery history. Open the same iCloud Obsidian vault on your Apple devices, then use the wizard to check its location and choose recovery options.

What's included

  • iCloud setup guidance with recognition of the standard local iCloud Obsidian folder on Mac and user-confirmed location checks on iPhone and iPad.
  • Optional local recovery, retaining existing Native Notes 2.0 device-local history.
  • Optional shared recovery snapshots stored in the vault's hidden .native-notes-history folder. iCloud carries these ordinary files between devices. Shared capture has a per-device budget and stops at its limit without deleting existing history.
  • Separate-copy restoration under Native Notes Restored, so restoring a version does not overwrite the current note.

Before using it

Follow the iCloud setup and recovery guide. On a new device, open the existing iCloud vault rather than creating an unrelated empty vault. A vault outside the required iCloud location must be moved through the normal file and vault-management workflow; the plugin does not migrate it automatically.

Apple controls account sign-in and transfers. Native Notes does not verify upload completion, remote delivery, or background availability. Recovery settings do not turn iCloud on or off, and shared recovery does not add end-to-end encryption. Keep a separate backup of important files.

OneDrive sign-in and plugin-managed transfers are planned for 2.2, not included in this release. Existing OS-managed OneDrive folders continue to work through their installed client. This release has no Microsoft runtime dependency.

Validation scope

406 automated tests, ESLint, the production build, and portable packaging pass. Live Mac checks passed for snapshots, deduplication, fresh-reader history, separate-copy restore, and disable/re-enable. Automated checks and desktop verification do not establish physical iPhone or iPad compatibility. Physical iPhone/iPad testing has not been performed for this release; verify a disposable note and recovery copy across your devices before relying on the workflow.
