UC Reviews is a full-stack web application that my team of three others and I developed as part of our senior design capstone project at the University of Cincinnati over the course of one academic year (three semesters) under the supervision of Professor Dyllon Dekok and Professor Rebekah Michael in the Information Technology department at CECH. We identified that the university lacked an accurate and actionable system for measuring student feedback. The existing feedback mechanism was limited to a simple “happy or not” kiosk (physical terminals where users could only select a smiley-based rating). This lacked written feedback or contextual insights.
To address this limitation, our team developed UC Reviews, a responsive web and mobile application that allows students at the University of Cincinnati to leave detailed reviews across various aspects of campus life, including housing, dining, faculty, and campus facilities. By providing a platform for in-depth feedback beyond simple ratings, UC Reviews addresses limitations in existing methods, such as the HappyOrNot kiosks, which lack contextual insights. By implementing features such as liking and disliking reviews, as well as reporting mechanisms, UC Reviews aims to foster a supportive community, encouraging genuine feedback that can guide actionable improvements across the campus. UCReviews was built using Angular, C#, Entity Framework, and Microsoft SQL Server, following a layered architecture to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability. The project received a final thesis grade of 100% and was presented at the University of Cincinnati IT Expo in April 2025.
The project was showcased at the University of Cincinnati IT Expo (2025), where it received 100% in the technical evaluation, under the supervision of Professor Dyllon Dekok and Professor Rebekah Michael.

This application consists of three components:
- Backend – A RESTful API built using C# and Entity Framework
- Frontend – Built in Angular
- Database – Powered by Microsoft SQL Server
The backend interacts with the database and handles requests from the frontend. It consists of:
- Controllers – Each entity has a dedicated controller that handles HTTP requests and delegates logic to services.
- Services – Contain application logic and serve as intermediaries between controllers and repositories.
- Repositories – Abstract database operations, ensuring clean data access.

UC Reviews was designed around common UC community roles:
- Student Persona – Wants to find reliable information about dorms, dining halls, professors, and parking.
- Faculty Persona – Reviews professor feedback to improve teaching quality.
- Administrator Persona – Uses the admin dashboard to moderate flagged reviews and track trends.
The system supports multiple interactions:
- Students – Login, browse listings, submit reviews, upvote/downvote reviews, report inappropriate content.
- Admins – Moderate flagged content, view analytics dashboard, manage users if necessary.
