p5 sound not working in android 4.1.1

Im trying to preview your example at http://p5js.org/learn/examples/Sound__Amplitude_Analysis.php

In my Android 4 chrome browser and it doesn't work. What is the minimum version support for Android?

AFAIK, even in Android, Chrome is at version 39 or something! o_O

Well I am using the latest android chrome browser 39 and it doesn't do anything after the loading. Message. The stock browser( not chrome) gives me a typeerror of undefined not a function at line 67. But works in iphone 4 ios7 safari and chrome

I think it is a rule on mobile devices that you can't autoplay video or audio media, it requires some user action, like clicking a button. see link above.

Well on ios it was initiated by touch event. However on android clicking on the page didnt yield anything.

I don't think this example: http://p5js.org/learn/examples/Sound__Amplitude_Analysis.php will work without modifying it to include some touchStarted() event, do you have one in there already? could you share your code?

Is it that you guys have to update the example to handle android chrome? NONE of your audio exmples work on Android 4

yes, I would suggest trying modifying the example code and adding a touchstarted() event to begin the play of the sound, rather than calling it in setup.

Let me know if you've found otherwise, but I don't think Web Audio needs a user interaction to start on Android. p5.sound already has a listener to start web audio on iOS here, and it could do the same for Android devices.

But it sounds like this was more of an issue with Web Audio compatibility. I've looked into Android compatibility a bit more, and here is some info.

The Android OS supports the Web Audio API since 4.1.x. Android 4.0.x and earlier may not.

However, most Android stock browsers don't support the Web Audio API because Android Browser is basically stuck in 2011. It's a problem for html5. This explains the error you were seeing on line 67 of the Android Browser: it can't create an AudioContext because it doesn't have the Web Audio API.

But Chrome should work! Web Audio has been enabled since version 29. It's working for me with v39 on Android 4.1.1 and 4.2.1. I found somebody posted this issue with Chrome 38+ Web Audio support, so maybe an update would help, even though you seem to already be on the latest version. Have you checked that Web Audio is not disabled by going to chrome://flags? Have you had any luck with Chrome Beta?

It's important that Chrome works because it is the stock browser on some newer Android devices, while the Android browser is being phased out. Other browsers that should work on Android 4.1+:

• Opera Browser for Android 26 (should be working since version 15)
• Firefox 34 (should be working since version 25)

Beyond that, there are many different browsers for Android—even variations of the same browser, like Opera Mini, Opera Classic. Unfortunately many of them have not implemented the Web Audio API or other HTML5 standards. I've tested a few other browsers like Dolphin and Boat, to no avail. You can test your browser's support here.

There may also be some device-specific issues. So if you haven't had any luck I'd be curious to hear what device and OS you are using?

I'm thinking that p5.sound should include some sort of notification when browsers don't support the Web Audio API.

I'm testing with a simpler, local version of the "amplitude.getLevel()" version At the moment I'm using Android 4.0.3 on an Asus tablet with Chrome and I get a

loadSound not defined when preload() is executed.

This however does not happen on an iOS7 iPhone4 running Safari

I could....but i don't want to. Most of the target audience use atleast 4.0 are you saying that it won't work unless its 4.1? Even if I have the latest chrome?

I was wondering if the WAAPISIM Library would have worked. Doesn't look as though it did.
