Does Box64 require me to have both arm64 and x64 libraries with the same abi?

Hello,

I could not find any information on this . I will be testing some scientific programs using box64. I have a rhel/centOS rootfs i can use that I can point to. My question is, would I also need the arm equivalent as well? So would I need to run this on a arm64 based redhat system ? I ask because the program of Interest are closed source and only work on rhel version of common libraries.

I'm nopt sure I understand the question, but my guess is; no, you don't need arm (armhf?). Box64 will run x86_64 closed source programs on arm64 linux.

Hey thanks for responding. My question was, say if I need a specific .so to run my program. I have the x86_64 version in the rootfs ready. However does the host need the arm64 version of the .so as well?

Or can the host be any distro as long as we have the correct .so in the lib64 folder we are passing via the environment variable.

x86_64 libs can be used by box64 with no issues. Some libs (looks in library_list.h for the list, until, one day, I add some code to get the list from box64 directly) can be "wrapped" and so the arm64 version can be used. The placements of the libs are the regular "debian" like multilib folders. Also LD_LIBRARY_PATH (and BOX64_LD_LIBRARY_PATH) are respected... So yeah, it should just work.

If it helps in answering my question, the application i run usually launches as a shell script. So id be launching from a x86_64 version of bash first =)

No. for wrapped libs, only arm64 version is needed.

I think that be a play. Just a final question/comment:

I am trying to run ansys fluent and/or starccm+ a cfd software for fun on termux via proot distro. That's why I asked about the abi stuff because these software are picky. Additionally they do take advantage of avx and other extensions. How would that work? I assume it wouldn't work accelerated, but should run otherwise?

AVX, AVX2 (and other extensions like FMA, ADOX, etc.) are supported by box64, and enabled by default on ARM build. So they will be accelerated.
