The root cause is the recent release of virtualenv 20.34.0, where a null check on cache was removed during a refactoring of a function that Hatch relies on.

This is the second time in a few weeks that a transient dependency of hatch is breaking the tool. Have you thought about locking hatchs runtime dependencies and have a dependabot pull them up automatically when smoketests are passing?
