[Bug]: Error using aimbat-ttpick -p P

Current Behavior

i'm trying to use aimbat-ttpick in order to pick de P-waves and i had an error with Numpy
i tried to install another version of numpy and it happened the same error

with conda
install py 3.9
matplotlib 3.5.3
numpy 1.24-1.25
try to use 'aimbat-ttpick -p P sac.pkl'

AIMBAT version

1.0.5

Environment

- OS:Zorin os 16.3 - ubuntu 22.04
- Python: 3.9.17

Before looking into this further, can you try upgrading to aimbat version 1.0.7 first and see if the bug is still there? And if yes, it would help if you could make your sac.pkl file available for us to download and test with it.

I downloaded your pkl file, and I can run aimbat-ttpick without getting that error in my environment.

There is a lot of old code in AIMBAT which doesn't play nicely with newer versions of python as well as third party packages (like numpy). I've added changes to the pysmo package to fix some of these, but it is not a reasonable approach to keep doing this. Hence we're working on a complete rewrite.

Maybe this helps:

• Can you verify the psymo version is 0.8.3? (run python -m pip show pysmo)
• Which version of python are you running? Maybe try something like 3.9.

@gposada , I must apologise; I had assumed that the error occurs right when you start running the script, and never let it get to the point of the error. I do actually have the same error when I run ttpick.

I suspect the reason for the error is that AIMBAT may be trying to use features no longer present in newer versions of matplotlib (or a combination of matplotlib and numpy). As the setup script for AIMBAT isn't specific about what versions of 3rd party packages it requires, it is possible that the versions installed alongside AIMBAT are too new.

I'll investigate this further.

Hi Gustavo,

The pkl file I downloaded from you seems to have some fields which are missing a value. The gcarc fields in your pkl file are None, which is what the script is complaining about. I suspect that is because the GCARC header field might be empty in your SAC files. You can check this with Python like this:

>>> from pysmo import SacIO
>>> print(SacIO.from_file('YOUR_SAC_FILE').gcarc)

If I remember correctly the sac binary calculates that field for you if the EVLA, EVLO, STLA, STLO header values are all provided. You may have to write over to actually save the header field in your sac files though.
