EditorConfig is useful and widely used IDE-agnostic configuration file that helps maintain a consisting coding style independent of the used IDE. Many IDEs like VS Code (via the EditorConfig for VS Code) extension support it. When an IDE loads a project with the .editorconfig file, it automatically applies the found settings, so that the DX is optimized for that project (e.g. indent size and style, EOL character, etc.).
