Social Bookmark plugin: bookmarks are lost after some time

Hi,

The issue is reproducible for both Delicious and Pinboard. Bookmarks are often swept out of the catalog entirely forcing me to rescan manually for plugin catalog entries. It seems to occur after I'm offline for a certain amount of time, I suppose after 10 min (which is my automatic rescan interval time) or when for some reason Delicious of Pinboard fails to respond.
I guess there is an error in the code in the exception handling so that the catalog entries are cleaned when the plugin fails to retrieve the bookmarks.

The entries should be cleaned only at initial retrieval when setting up new credentials, but not after automatic rescans.

good to see that someone else has already logged this. i am having pretty much the same problem although i cannot discern any pattern in the frequency of bookmark loss.

i use this plugin that was updated mainly to use the pinboard service. the older version that was Delicious-only didnt have the issue.

The plugin has been flakey for some time. The latest manifestation is that when I try to re-scan pinboard the number of objects scanned appear in the Catalog > Custom pane but when I open Information > Contents, no scanned objects are listed. Currently, the plugin seems to be remembering my login and password but sometimes loses this ability. I've also had periods where the objects are scanned and bookmarks are accessible but where the number of objects doesn't appear (ie pretty much the exact opposite of current behaviour). This plugin badly needs some maintenance / a rewrite.

Just came here to report the same issues as crookedfootball already covered. Social Bookmarks plugin tries to scan my Pinboard bookmarks but it's not actually pulling anything into the catalog at all for me.

I don't know how to bring more attention to this issue as it it's been more than two months with no fix. It's getting annoying as this plugin has been my favorite and has kept me committed to quicksilver. I hope someone who knows code has been working on this issue.

I'm still waiting for a fix but if you're desperate then you may want to look at an indirect way of having safari import the delicious bookmarks (or Pinboard) and then using the safari plugin for quicksilver to access them.

Amazingly, it seems to be working this morning. (It also worked once about 2 weeks ago for a few hours). I fully expect reversion to "normal" shortly.

To my knowledge, never in the history of Quicksilver has anyone worked on a plug-in they didn’t use themselves, so what you need is someone who is both a developer and a user of this plug-in. That means either a developer uses this plug-in, or a user learns how to work on it themselves. It’s starting to look like none of the usual developers are using this, so it might be time for one of you to consider the second option.

I’m not a developer that decided to help with Quicksilver. I’m a user that learned Cocoa only because doing certain things in Quicksilver was important to me. So while this is a crappy answer, I’m not asking you to do anything I haven’t done myself. :-) And you’ll have it about 1000 times easier than I did, thanks to this.

FYI, the last person to work on this was @qiushihe. You could try your luck with direct contact, but I think if anything was going to happen there, it probably would have by now.

A whole day of it working yesterday (for the first time in a month!) and then, this morning, back to its broken state. Truly random.

Not me, sorry. Time is what I need, and if I had it, there are a dozen other things I’d want to work on. Maybe someone else.

Unfortunately the Social Bookmarks plugin is no longer supported (is not 64 bit), so we can't update it
