Difficulty Installing sf version 1.0-8 Windows

Hello. I am trying to install sf version 1.0-8 . But I am getting an error. I am able to install the current version of sf but not the older version. I am able to install 1.0-8 on an ubuntu machine but now a windows

Well, you don't show the full installation output, so what can we say. Have you tried first installing the R version that was current 3 years ago, and the Rtools the corresponds to it?

Thank you for getting back to me. I did install the R version and corresponding RTools from 3 years ago. I will forward the output errors that I was getting. Included below.

SharpYuvConvert is not something sf refers to, but may be something one of the upstream dependencies refers to. Looking at the path, starting with rtools45\..., that does not sound like an Rtools version of 3 years ago (as we're now at 4.5.1)

Hello. That error message was forwarded from a more recent machine. But the error was the same so I included it. In my most recent test this morning using R 4.2.1 and RTools 42 I get the error message below. There are a lot more comments above this but including just the bottom portion.

For more information, below is the command I used to try and install the package version of sf1.0-8. I confirm rtools is installed and gdal is also installed.

packageurl = "https://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/sf/sf_1.0-8.tar.gz"
install.packages(packageurl, repos=NULL, type="source")

After I run the above command, there is a not posted that the package needs manual configuration. But I am not sure how to do that.

Hi Edzer. Thank you for the response. I was trying to install this for another researcher who is getting different results using the current version of the sf package. And they want to go backwards to see if the version of sf will give them results they expect. I thank you for your quick responses. I am not sure how to proceed any further either. If you have any ideas down the road please let me know. But I think there is no further action at the moment.

I would suggest to not go the windows path for this, as it is a nightmare. Also, different results may (most likely?) come from changes in the upstream libraries (PROJ, GDAL, GEOS, s2geometry, dependencies of these) rather than sf itself, upstream libs can be installed in older versions pretty easily, see for instance the docker files in inst/docker as a start.

Hello. The researcher I am helping is working on a windows based environment that does not have internet connection. And they must use this windows environment as they are working with restricted data and must use that environment. I was also trying to convert and transfer the working ubuntu package to windows. But I was struggling with that as well.
