Interested in Contributing (Android, Performance & Battery Optimization)

Hi everyone,

First, I wanted to thank everyone involved in OpenVision. I've spent the last couple of weeks following the project, reading through the documentation, and learning about the architecture. It's honestly one of the most exciting open-source wearable AI projects I've come across.

I'm new to contributing to open source, but I'm approaching this with the mindset of learning first and contributing where I can provide value.

As I've been reading through the repository and contributing guidelines, I really appreciate how well the project is organized. The separation of services, the emphasis on testing, and the documented architecture make it approachable for someone who wants to become a long-term contributor.

Rather than jumping into a large feature request, my goal is to spend time understanding the codebase and helping improve the project one step at a time.

Some of the areas I'm particularly interested in are:

• Battery optimization and power management
• Camera and sensor lifecycle management
• Resource cleanup and timeout handling
• Performance improvements
• Documentation
• Testing and reliability
• General quality-of-life improvements

I've already been putting together a proposal around battery-aware sensor management and configurable power modes because I think efficient resource usage will become increasingly important as wearable AI moves toward all-day use. Before proposing code, I'd love to get feedback from the community and better understand the project's priorities.

I'd also love some guidance from the maintainers:

• Where could a new contributor have the biggest impact?
• Are there any good "first contribution" opportunities that would help me learn the architecture?
• Are there areas of the project that could use additional help but may not be obvious from the issue tracker?

Longer term, I'm primarily an Android user, so I'd eventually be interested in helping explore what an Android companion implementation could look like if that's ever something the project would welcome. I understand that's a much larger effort, though, and my focus right now is on learning the project and contributing where I can be genuinely helpful.
