Windows support?

I was wondering whether this library can run on Windows? From build.zig I can see it is setup for Windows but in the README.md, Windows still not supported?

Hi! Thanks for the interest!

Support for Windows (and macOS) are in the works but I do not believe that the library is in a position to have them categorized as supported yet. I want to give them a proper pass and make sure there is infrastructure in place before having them officially marked as supported. As I don't regularly use either platform, I would like to get the library to the best place possible before taking that step so that I can maximize the return on that time.

This has taken a somewhat fortunate turn of events.

There are still some things left to untangle but this is promising.

@sugarme I hope to have the changes for Windows support pushed sooner than later but I don't have a specified timeline yet. It's going to be something of a first pass but for library consumers, I think it should be more than enough. The examples in the examples repository have some added complexity to them due to their heft, but for actual application development by consumers, consuming the main library should be a much simpler affair.

All in all, things have actually turned out better than I had anticipated despite the frustrating path to get across the finish line. I'll add a second comment to this thread shortly (and also separate from this long thread) but the long and short of it is that there are still many uncontrollable limitations. Other than that, it'll be great to close this out once everything lands.

• Some Zig toolchain issues affecting MSVC:

  • provide an MSVC-compatible command line interface, similar to zig cc but with MSVC-flavored flags
  • support -lc++ on windows for the msvc ABI
  • MSVC target on Windows does not work with any C++ code

• Qt WebEngine Platform Notes:

  Note: It is not recommended to use tools from msys2 or cygwin to build Qt WebEngine as it may result in build errors.

  Note: Currently, Qt WebEngine does not compile with MinGW.
